His life as your life

It’s possible that you have absorbed the idea that you are a pain to God or that you are constantly a disappointment to Jesus or seen as a lost cause by the trinity - or that when God looks at you, He thinks like the original archetype of Queen Victoria. He is not amused at your 'you'.

Some people attach themselves to a ‘not-amused’ God as though they are doing Him a favour.

The truth is than in some cases – ok - in many cases, our parents experienced us as ‘pains’ and in some instances, a disappointment. Quite the opposite is the case with our heavenly Father. I was amused when I read once that much of our adult life is spent recovering from the wounds of childhood. I don’t mean that we all suffered by bad parenting but all our parents were human and subject to the difficulty of giving unconditional love.

God regards each of His sons and daughters with joy. Our achieved union with Him is an adoption and a marriage. Both relationships describe the intimacy and joy of a real union with God. Our union is real when we act as though it is. Union with God is our inheritance. When we do not live in it because we live in religion we are burying our talents in the ground and accusing Him of being a ‘hard man’ because in our view our inheritance could not be that God. But it is. It’s better.

“Jesus did not dread setting aside His celestial glory to step into our fallen world. It was always His ravishing desire to take a bride. Rather than a gruelling task – a last ditch effort to come clean Adam’s mess – His advent into our skin was more akin to a plunge into Candyland. As Catherine of Sienna said, “You, high eternal Trinity, acted as if You were drunk with love, infatuated with your creature. … You, Sweetness itself, stooped to join Yourself with our bitterness. You, Splendour, joined Yourself with darkness; You, Wisdom with foolishness; You, Life with death; You, the Infinite, with us who are finite.” (1)

The fact is we are desired, we belong and we are in His fellowship of love and ultra-life.
