Paul wrote, “I am shocked that you are turning away so soon from God, who called you to himself through the loving mercy of Christ. You are following a different way that pretends to be the Good News.” Even at that early stage some had adopted revisionist gospels that altered the achievement of God for His daughters and sons.
There is one gospel of the Kingdom. This is the gospel of Jesus, Paul and John and the gospel of all who represent the Kingdom of heaven rather than some proprietary kingdom they themselves have worked up.
‘In these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe’ HEB 1.2 NIV.
Not only did He make the universe. He makes you, the Body and the new creation by replicating Himself in people. Jesus is God’s final revelation and His complete gospel of the Kingdom. Any addition or subtraction in Christian teaching, did not come from God. Stephen Crosby writes,
“Jesus Christ is the final word of God to humanity. God has spoken in, through, and by, the Son. This verse cannot be translated very well into English. It literally means that God has spoken in a sonly way. The Son is the message, the medium, the method, and the messenger.” (1)
This means that Christ is our life in the basic issue of salvation but much more than this. Jesus represents each of us in our relation to God. He is our relationship to God. Yet even more than this - that He is our life means that Jesus is each of us. His Spirit has come in our flesh and He is replicated in Bill and Jill. This is to say that in Jesus you are who you are. You are not a clone of Jesus of Nazareth but you are the manifestation of His Spirit as yourself. Together we make up the church Jesus builds without human hands. This is His Body – the manifestation of Himself in the world as the Kingdom of God’s Sons and Daughters.
