‘When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’ John 8.12 NIV.
So why can Believers walk in darkness? Look at it this way. Some folks find it impossible to keep a room tidy. Fussing about, they instinctively make any simple task complicated and surround themselves with chaos. They find it hard to distinguish the parts from the whole. Should they be a hoarder, which they usually are, since faith in ones stuff makes everyone insecure, they will live from a fragmented reality that they call ‘their faith.’ Some theologians have spent their entire lives trying in a convoluted way to rationalize the chaos of the ‘other gospel’ that has been handed to them by those who could have known better. Why such a wobbly outlook?
In the beginning Satan seduced Adam and Eve into living in parts when they had been living in the whole - living in the being of Father and being part of Him as daughter and son. This planned witchcraft remains the same today. Keep them them living in the law and their hoarded bits of religion* so that they miss the whole and remain fragmented in themselves, even making religion out of it.
SEEING CLEARLY NOW
If we have been accustomed to interpret Jesus and His gospel through the law, it is unlikely that we will readily understand what is meant by Life in the Spirit. We will be impelled to adjust every manifestation of the spirit into something of the letter, since this is our frame and our epistemology.
John’s opening statement about the new creation, a parallel to the account in Genesis, should alert us to the fact that the Kingdom of God is about spirit and life. John boldly declares that Jesus is life and that this life is the light of all men and all women. It also warns us that people being carnal are attracted to un-life with the result that many can be so immunized against the truth that they prefer darkness rather than light. We are warned that humanity has a penchant for living in the shadow instead of the reality.
‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.
The prime reality of the new testament age is the incarnation. From this relationship grows the sons of God, life in the Spirit and the new creation.
So what is the reality. The reality is that Christ is all and in all. The reality is that Christ is either our life or we are not fully alive. The reality is that Christ as our life is not something to strive for. It is to be rested in. The reality is that we do not so much receive Jesus but rather we rest in the fact that we have been received into His fellowship, His life, His Spirit and the companionship of all who have ever believed. The reality of life in the Spirit is that Christ, Father and Holy Spirit have come in our flesh. We, in the spirit are the manifestation of God. This is why we should live in the purity and fullness of our ultra-life as daughters and sons. And not in dilutions that minister death and that originate in the spirit of anti-christ. ______
