Thousands of Christians live out their Christianity as a religion and some live it as an ideology. It is none of these. The Kingdom of God is the person of Jesus and the ideology of the Kingdom – if it can be called that at all since it is really incarnation – is the mind of Christ as your mind.
The content of a relationship with God for some is church attendance and for others a commitment to a doctrinal distinctive. But this is not a relationship with God. David the Psalmist depicted this in the old testament and Jesus displayed our relationship with Father in His ministry among us. Jesus on the other hand declared Himself as THE WAY and Paul stated that Jesus Himself is our life in every aspect of our being in God.
The relationship Jesus describes below is your relationship with Father in Jesus. It’s your fellowship with the trinity. Your relationship with God is personal, communal and dynamic. It’s not a thing. ‘Worship’ is never ‘the worship’ as a thing people do before the sermon. Our worship is our interwoveness with God and our living out this relationship in ordinary life.
‘All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him’ Matt 11.27 NIV.
Many of us live a religion or an ideology or a belief system because it’s all we know and all those we are surrounded with live. We need to know the meaning of the cross for us and for the world. The cross is the door to the new and living way who is Christ our life. Jesus is our life individuality, as family, church, society and Kingdom. Here’s a summary of the meaning of the cross.
THE CROSS FOR YOU
“The first thing to be said about the death of Jesus Christ is that he died because God the Father almighty loves us with an implacable and undaunted and everlasting love, a love that absolutely refuses to allow us to perish. The second great fact that establishes the necessity of Jesus’ death is what the Bible calls “sin,” the profound spiritual disease that infiltrated the human race in Adam. Sin threatened the destruction of creation and of God’s eternal purpose for us. Jesus died because God the Father refused to give up His dreams for us, and because the only way for those dreams to be fulfilled, in the context of sin, was by recreating the human race through death and resurrection.” (1)
God in the form of the trinity has a passionate love for you and for the world. This is the kind of love that nurtures you into living life to the full and living forever. God will have you and has gone to the cross to get you for Himself and for you. But God does not stand apart from you and tell you what to do. He sends the Son of Man who is Himself God to live in you and manifest His Spirit as you.
“There are at least two facts about the Christian God that are unparalleled: The first is the doctrine of the Trinity. The second is the humility of God. In no other religion do we have a god who stoops, a god who comes down to enter into human history in the most inconceivably personal way. But here in Christianity, we have a God who wants to be united with us and who is prepared to humble Himself and even to suffer to accomplish such a union.” (2)
It is this union with God that is the essence and the Key of your life as son/daughter of God. It comes to you because your Adam life is crucified in Jesus at the cross. It belongs to you because your Christ life enters you by Holy Spirit to imbue your spirit, soul and body with the actual presence of the trinity.
THE TRINITY FOR US
The fact that God is a trinity is important. It’s because of the relationship of love and joy that each member of the trinity have with each other that we can say that ‘God is love’. A god that is a solitary ‘one’ cannot love because love requires relationship. A unitary unmoved mover style of god does not love and is impervious to life. Thus Jesus came among us to give us life, life and light. The full flowering of humanity comes via the Son of Man who joins us to the hub of all life, personality and community well-being: The Trinity that is the hub of life without limit. The more legalistic and loveless a religion is the more it is likely to deny. This can be seen in Islam and in ‘Oneness Pentecostalism’ and other legalistic expressions of Christianity. The law is innately reductionist. It shrinks life in people and would do so in God.
The person of Jesus always enlarges. Dead things are healed. Broken parts or our being are restored. Jesus is the healing of you and of the entire earth.
“The Christian God is interested in relationship with us, and not just relationship, but union, and not just union, but such a union that everything He is and has—all glory and fullness, all joy and beauty and unbridled life—is to be shared with us and to become as much ours as it is His. The plan from the beginning, in the Christian vision, is that God would give Himself to us, and nothing less, so that we could be filled to overflowing with the divine life.” (3)
