We were made to live in God. This is how we began. When we live in life we are alive and we seek life out. But we must know that life is personal, is persons and a communion. Life is relationship first with God and then with ourselves. In this union which is a communion we are fully human, fully alive and sons and daughters of God in spirit and in truth. But should we have been seduced into pseudo life we will see life as a threat. We will oppose real life and pretend we are alive by living in its shadows.
There’s more to the tree of the knowledge of good and evil than meets the eye. When God said, “If you eat that fruit, you will surely die,’ He was intimating what would occur as a result. Humans would separate themselves from life. He did not say what The Enemy already knew – that the attempt to be godly in the sorcery of this forbidden knowledge involves separation from God. But this is its essence. And in the upside down logic and irrationality of this ‘knowledge of good and evil’ human beings would cling to its fragments and dichotomies as if these scraps were life. They would argue, propose perspectives and evangelise theologies that were death disguised as life. Many would oppose life and do this in the name of God.
ONE AS THEY ARE ONE
There was no religion before the fall. God and Adam and Eve lived in communion. Religion is what we resort to when we are attempting to overcome the (supposed) absence of God. In our last post I explained that religion opposes life. Many may take offence at this for religion is what they live in. Religion opposes life in innocence, in malice and in delusion. Delusion because through His Son Father has made us one with God. There's need for‘religion’ following the cross – no mediatorial apparatus required. God is in us and with us. He is one with our being. God and human beings now have a union that is best described as the inter-weaving of being. Jesus anticipated this in John 17 and in this scripture?
‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20 LORD’S TABLE
Jesus said, those who eat me will live because of me. By agreeing that Jesus is our life He becomes our life. His Table represents this reality. It’s a demonstration of the incarnation of God in us. By eating the Bread of Life we become fully alive with His spirit and life. We increase in life and in life-giving agency as life-giving spirits. The Spirit of Life has manifest in our flesh – which is to say the life of God is manifest as Bob and Jane.
‘Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world’ 1 John 4. 1-3 NIV. WRONG TREE
We can attempt to live indirectly from religion, resorting to devices, behaviours and rites in order to obtain union with God; to be as gods, to experience the spirit of sonship in spirit and life and to luxuriate in the purity and energy of infinite life. We can do not realise that all this is already ours and that we have been duped into making religion out of lies and death. As a result we will slowly die. Our senses will atrophy and we will mumble nonsense as if it is truth. Worse still, we will oppose life in the name of God and literally crucify the son of God in others who are alive and new.
In the new covenant the Spirit of God in its fullness can manifest as you, if you are humble enough to believe and if you have not made a denominational system out of eyes that cannot see and ears that cannot hear. Should we take our Adam to the cross we will rise from our living-death as resurrected sons of God in the person of Jesus to live an Easter Life as Christ multiplied as us and people we know.
