His life as your life

Our life as sons/daughter of God is our life one with God. There is no condemnation in Christ Jesus and there is no separation. Just as Jesus and the Father were one so is this our reality and our companionship. We and Father are one.

Away with this talk of ‘keeping close to Jesus’. This is the effect of a separationist ideology that overlooks our inheritance of union with God. He is in you and with you because He is. Not because you did something. You are joined to God in Christ.

The truth is not far from you. The truth is in you. “
If he [Jesus] was not really God then there was no divine reality in anything he said or did, and if he was not really man then what God did in him had no saving relevance for human beings.” Of course God did and this is the meaning of the ‘at-one-ment’ and the incarnation.

Our post cross life is not a contract between ourselves and God. It’s not us being a good person or us doing deeds of charity and largesse in order to secure an outcome for ourselves. But it is a state of being. It’s us being sons of God. To be born again is to be born out of such a mindset into something that is a belief but more than a belief. It is believing and agreeing that we are one with God, that God is part of us and that we are daughters and sons. In this state we are life-givers. In Religion we are not.

‘The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you - they are full of the Spirit and life’ John 6.63 NIV. Life in the Spirit is not a captivity in the old covenant with the gifts added. Life in the Spirit is our life as a manifestation of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

This is the Vine of which we are the branches and the fruit – our living life that is the conduit of heaven’s life into earth. Our actions are not life-giving because we are kind. They are life-giving because we are an expression of God. Your life becomes spirit and life. Recall that Jesus warned that unless we eat the flesh of the son of man and drink His blood there is no life in us – no spirit and life that is. The life Jesus is speaking of is divine life flowing from the trinity, through us and into the people and places of need.

The fundamental datum of the Gospel: that in Jesus Christ, who was born of Mary and suffered under Pontius Pilate, God himself has come to be with us and reveal himself to us, and that in the one Person of Jesus Christ God and man are inseparably united for us and our salvation.” (2)
