His life as your life

The key fact of new testament life is that Christ has come in our flesh. Not only are we woven into His gracious humanity but we are woven into God – woven into the Holy Family. Separation has ended. We and God are one. This is the basis of your life.

‘Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them’ John 14.23 NIV. What is this teaching? It is His gospel of the Kingdom which is that we come to our Father by His Son; that He is the way to limitless life and truth and that we are alive as sons when we agree that He has come in our flesh. How do we know that believing that He has come in our flesh is important?

‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV. The difference is us coming in he flesh with a life of externalities and Christ becoming us. It’s also the difference between a notional ‘belonging’ to the Body of Christ and a real belonging. With the Lord’s Table we are celebrating this reality: The reality that we are and God are one.

God and we are one because God has interwoven us in to God’s being.

The major point [here] is that Jesus has not left the human sphere; he is revealing the goal, the fullness, and the purpose of humanity itself, which is “that we are able to share in the divine nature” (2 Peter 1:4), even in this wounded and wounding world. Yes, resurrection is saying something about Jesus, but it is also saying a lot about us, which is even harder to believe. It is saying that we also are larger than life, Being Itself, and therefore made for something good, united, and beautiful. Our code word for that is heaven.’ (1)

Heaven comes to earth not just because we have healed a crippled leg – although this is certainly a sign of heaven’s presence. Heaven comes to earth because the fullness of God lives in you just as it was in Jesus. Let’s be clear. The person of Jesus lives in you and become you. We live from the resurrected Jesus and are His resurrection in person.

For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.  He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.  For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him,  and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross’ Col 1.16-20.

To live in Jesus is not to live in compartments, dichotomies set apart times and places. It is to live in life. This life is personal, trinitarian and it is you and it is us. We live this in Jesus but not in Adam or Moses.

Resurrection flows from us into all things. Why? In Adam all die. But since the cross we have risen in Jesus. We are in Christ and we are alive in His life. In Christ all things are made alive and we have become life-giving spirits – imparters of heaven’s life. Heaven’s life is personal and communal. It is the trinity in you. Joined to the life-hub of the universe you are no longer a channel of religion. You live spirit and life because you are alive with eternal life and a manifestation of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

You are living in the at-one-ment. You are the new Adam to reign in the earth. You have an integrated self, an integrated life and are integrated through Jesus into the ‘being’ of the universe. You have been made a life-giver and one with a living universe that is he manifestation of God and of you.
