His life as your life

In the last post I wrote about the simplicity of the gospel. It is simple but it does involve a knowledge of God. If what we know is to be useful this means an accurate knowledge of God, of ourselves and who we are as a result of God’s achievements on our behalf. Having said this we do not receive life by ‘special knowledge’, meaning that we are not Gnostics with a unique piece of enchanted kit. We ‘know’ and are alive in the active life of Jesus who is with us and in us and by whom we are in God and with God.

Jim spent 20 years of his life carrying buckets of rocks from a room in a mine. His life changed when he found that he had been working from the wrong room and that what belonged to him was another room full of buckets of gold. This gold is simply what Paul calls ‘
Christ our life.’

Jesus urged, ‘You will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20 NIV. This realisation is the moment of our re-birth and the beginning of our real self and our real life in God. As such we are more than a believer in God. We are the expression of God as a daughter or son. Our treasure is gold tried in the fire.

The ‘knowing’ that is now ours is Christ our life. It’s union, a state of being. Being what? Being one with God and one with who God is – companionship with the trinity. This ‘oneness’ is always one with the truth because truth is personal. Truth is God and when we are in God, truth is us. Thus real life is found not in laws, not in abstractions or positions but in God Himself. You were made to live in God and Jesus is the living in which that happens. Mysticism is not crazy and not really mysterious. It’s actually Christ come in our flesh. The difference between the inmate of a belief system and one who is a mystic is that the latter interacts with the being of God. John Crowder explains this treasure.

Knowledge does not save us; Jesus did. The Secret is not a mental accumulation of concepts. The Secret is a Person. The Secret doesn’t teach us to be saved, but saves us. He is our very Union with Himself. The One we’re attached to and the Attachment itself. No tactics for catching Him through study or prayer. He is the God-Man Bridge, who in His very being and substance is

Connectivity. He is Relationship. Love that binds Lover and Beloved. This is why salvation is not simply something He did as an action … salvation is the very person of Christ Himself. The essence of His very being is incarnation – oneness between Heaven and earth. He mediates not as a mere action but simply by being God and humanity in the same package

When the truth of what is written above grips our being we will belong to the Body of Christ in spirit and in truth. Until we do we will be purveyors of something and nothing as if our nothing has weight – ministers of words without being and duration without content.

‘The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life’ John 6.63 NIV. Jesus was alive with life and ignited with spirit because He and Father were one. This union with God is ours in Jesus. It’s the living way in which we are ministers of new covenant life. In God we minister God and are clouds with rain.
