His life as your life

Many Believers live their entire lives in their false selves because they have not fully entered into the fullness of their inheritance in Jesus. Truth makes a difference. Truth is the difference between the fall and the resurrection of humanity. Change the narrative and you change existence. So Jesus promoted Himself as the new and living way – the way that is the undoing of fallen Adam and the rise of the sons and daughters of God.

Live in a false gospel and we live in a false self and a false life.

It is because truth is life that it matters what we believe. Just as there was ‘One ring to rule them all and in the darkness blind them’ so there is one Door to find them all and in His light un-bind them.

If we want to advance the idea that one can believe what one likes and still be sons of God and part of the Body of Christ then we would have to argue that the lies that precipitated the fall should be let alone, that the world has no need of the cross and that Jesus wasted His time in setting captives free. Why? Because they were not in fact bound. But the imprisonment of the lie is that we don’t know we are bound. It’s calling darkness light and light darkness.

Baxster Kruger offers this piece of wisdom and revelation.

The gospel is not the news that we can receive Jesus Christ into our lives; the gospel is the news that Jesus Christ has received us into his life. And the us he has received into his life is not the Sunday version of us, but the blind and obstinate, the faithless and fearful and terrified us.”

This is the new and living way in spirit and in truth – the incarnated Christ as you and you in Christ interwoven into the fellowship of the Holy Family. Here you are free to mature into your real self. Here the church is transformed into an actual body of Christ rather than a notional one.

Some versions of Christianity may be ticking boxes. Others may be largely an institutional routine. The Kingdom is ‘I in you and you in Me.’ We can be sons notionally or we can be sons in spirit and in truth. With Christ as our life we have moved out of the illusions of the knowledge tree and into the reality of union with God where we are sons and part of Christ in spirit and in truth.

‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20 NIV. This is the day you participate in your new covenant union with God. It’s the day that Adam is undone in you and Christ lives for you and vicariously becomes you.

A state of being what? A state of being one with God. Some versions of christianity are largely institutionalized separation – with the institution or its teaching claiming to be the way to union with God. But you are already one with God. Jesus is the way and you are welcomed in Him to the same kind of fellowship with the Holy Family that Jesus enjoys.

Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them’ John 14.23 NIV.

To enter into God’s life is to be enter in to the person of His Son. Christianity is more than a belief. It is a state of being – of being one with God. The truth of the matter is that the Kingdom of the sons of God is less about us receiving Christ and more about the fact that we agree that He has drawn us into His life. We are in Him, we are in fellowship with the trinity and we belong.

The new covenant is not like the old covenant contract: ‘Obey and live’. The new covenant is ‘you are alive in Me so live my life’. Incarnated with God in God’s fullness you are a son/daughter who continually advances into the glory who you were created to be. The old Adamic self is sloughed off and the self that is Christ your life becomes you in spirit and in truth.

Holy Spirit, the gifts and the anointing will end in dormancy if we have not rooted ourselves in the incarnation. What begins with excitement cannot be sustained because it has no root. The new testament is not a life grafted in the old. It’s you grafted into God.

Just as history transitioned from Adam to Jesus at the cross, so God’s intention is that you and all of us pass over from religion to union with God. As a son in spirit and in truth, you and our Father are one. This is the difference between a Kingdom and non-kingdom person. The latter is becalmed in religion and in the tree of knowledge. The former like the Saul who became Paul entered the reality of his true self when Jesus entered him and ‘became’ him.

‘But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me’
1 Cor 15.10 NIV.

In our pre-cross self we know neither God as God is or ourselves as we are. We concoct conflicted theologies and attempt to patch up the old wineskin. The new wineskin is not Jesus helping you do religion and law. The new wineskin is Jesus manifest as you. Until we are born again, we cannot see ourselves or know our real selves which is why we have a limited capacity to see and know the Kingdom of God. Richard Rohr writes,

The True Self can see and speak truth to itself and also recognize its own games, if not immediately then eventually. It is a house, therefore, built on rock (Matthew 7:25), which does not mean it does not need constant maintenance, cleaning, and refinishing. The True Self is not the perfect self. It merely participates in the One who is. Holiness is not always wholeness; in fact, it never is. God alone is whole and “good,” as Jesus says—when even he is called “good” (Mark 10:18). (1)
