The big deal in the new testament age is Jesus manifesting in the individual and as the church. Here is how we get to be sons of God and heirs of the Kingdom: We are the manifestation of Christ. This is life in the Spirit and the repetition of the mystery of the Son of God manifesting as Jesus of Nazareth. Only today Jesus by His Spirit manifests in all who believe. It’s called Christ come in our flesh, which is the substance of the new creation. This is the new creation that began when Jesus came out of the tomb.
Thus John writes, ‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.’ John is not talking so much about occultic phenomena or mediums doing magic tricks. He means people substituting the law and its embroideries in people instead of the spirit of Christ in people.
ONE WITH FATHER
Jesus lived entirely from His Father. As the Son He was an independent person, yet part of Father’s being. Since the resurrection of Jesus we are part of God’s being. We and our Father are one. We have the same relationship Jesus had with His Father. The relationship the trinity have with each other is the relationship that is ours with God. We belong and have been woven into the Family of God. In the light of this, the attempt to be godly via the law, rules and performances must be seen as extraneous and misguided. Not to mention retrograde and revisionist. It assumes separation when we have union and that we must do something more when God has done it all. What we must do is live from where He has placed us: In Himself.
‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14,20.
SHADOW TO REALITY
Christians may live out a belief system but sons and daughters live out of God. They are in God, one with God and the expression of God – this is their life as new creation beings who multiply new creation life. Should we live from the lesser externalities mentioned above we will be less than we are, less than we can be and confined in a state of arrested development. We will do this even as we attempt to spread the gospel of the Kingdom as incompetent ministers. In this vein we can be sincere and present a theological discourse. But it is seldom the vehicle of revelation and largely bereft of spirit and life.
In direct union with God you are spirit and life.
In Jesus dwelt the fullness of the God-Head bodily. His life, teaching, death and resurrection, together with His multiplication among humans through the Holy Spirit, covers all that needed to be done for the human race. All was complete and all human beings received the potential to live as sons of God in spirit and in truth - courtesy of the vicarious humanity of Jesus. All has been done. Nothing more needed to be done. God’s plan was complete and we have been made complete in Christ.
Nothing needed to be added to this revelation. In fact any addition or subtraction, any new revelation must be seen as a repetition of the ‘Hath God not said,’ fraud and as such as ‘another gospel.’ All of us have the opportunity to live from Christ our life through our unique individuality.
Don’t go about saying we have this perspective and we’re entitled to it. There is no legitimate perspective other than that of Jesus, Paul, and John. None of us have the right to vary the gospel or create a gospel of our own. Should we do so, we place ourselves outside the gospel of the Kingdom and the Body of Christ.
‘But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!’ Gal 1.8,9 NIV.
Jesus draws each of us and all creation into Himself. He makes fragmented things one. In so doing He makes each element of the creation what it is and makes us who we really are. Tied to the law one cannot be a fully developed human being let alone a son of God in fullness. The best law can produce is a sincere but misguided worker or a dull and wooden-minded slave. But in the Spirit of sonship we overflow with real humanity, we are life-giving spirits and we flourish as sons and daughters of God. J Baxter Kruger writes of the excellent majesty and life-giving power of Jesus Christ.
“To speak the name of Jesus Christ biblically, and in the tradition of the early Church, is to say ‘Father’s eternal Son incarnate,’ and it is to say ‘Holy Spirit anointed One,’ and it is to say ‘Lord, Creator and Sustainer of all things’ and thus the very name of Jesus says, ‘The Triune God, the human race, and all creation are not separated but together in relationship.’ Jesus is himself the relationship. In him, in his own life and being and experience the Father, the Holy Spirit, humanity, and all creation are together.”
