‘Development’ is a fruit of Christ our life. It’s inherent in the image of the Vine and the branches and core to the reality of being trees of life. It’s the opposite of torpor and stagnation and the fruit of the unfolding resurrection of Christ in us. It’s what Paul knew as ‘ever increasing glory’ .
We see ‘development’ in the unfolding of God’s Plan.
“The death, resurrection and ascension of Christ were as much a part of God’s plan of creation as was “let there be light”! It happened before it happened. God simply waited for the human race to come to a place of maturity in its understanding so that it could comprehend and understand what was going on when Substance finally met shadow. I believe that God waited for us to reach a certain and crucial point in our development until He unveiled His eternal plan in Jesus Christ.
As a parent waits for their child to reach a responsible age before entrusting them with their inheritance, so the Father waited until our understanding of sin, death, and our own inability to save ourselves, was at a place where we could cognitively receive the meaning and heart behind the inheritance of salvation. This salvation which we now enjoy is spoken of numerous times as being an inheritance.” (1)
ROOTED IN THE SOIL OF THE TRINITY
Life is a person. Should we choose - this life will be us. We will become the expression of Christ. Incarnation precedes all else. The first work of Jesus and Holy Spirit is to make us alive with His Spirit and life. The second work is to make us ministers of this spirit and life as ourselves and as ourselves with the gifts of the Spirit. Unless we are rooted in the new covenant the gifts will dissipate or confuse.
If we Believe in God who lives to share His life with people we will be more likely to be alive and joyous than those who see God as one intent on manipulating and controlling people through judgment and implied threats. As a law-based Christian we can make a good job of being ‘a dead person walking’ but we cannot manufacture in ourselves anything resembling spirit and life – not even with the anointing of Holy Spirit.
Legalists and those from a law- based-Christian-culture tend to micro-manage others. They are hard on themselves and their colleagues because at heart their god is more mean than loving and more into condemnation than into affirmation. Jesus came to set captives free from this kind of humbug.
From before the dawn of time the trinity in their joy of living chose to birth human-beings to share their excitement in simply ‘being.’
Thus Jesus announced His mission as setting captives free (from confusing death with life) and imparting to them life without limit. The trinity gave themselves to us in Jesus so that we could become woven into each other’s being and become ‘profoundly alive.’ God’s purpose was not to make us successful adherents of the abstraction of the law but to baptise us into limitless life. To think that the focus of God’s purpose in Jesus is the law is to be exceptionally misguided.
Don’t be among those who conscientiously live a religious life and in doing so remain bereft of spirit and life.
Recently I saw a woman sing a song of life on YouTube. The words were originally written about a lover, but they more accurately express what Jesus means when He said, ‘Those who eat me will live because of Me.’ You can eat life.
“Now that I know what I'm without You can't just leave me. Breathe into me and make me real Bring me to life.”
You can be brought to life.
Make this your prayer and you will personally be an expression of the way, the truth and the life. You will be real. You will be alive. You will be you. You will be a river of spirit and life.
