Jesus gave us the key to the Kingdom. The key is a sign of the acknowledgement that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world - but not only the Savior. It is the sign of power that means He is personally our life and the life of the world. The new creation springs from His being multiplied in us. The scriptures below are less about spiritual warfare and more about the nature of the of Kingdom - that authoritatively and relentlessly advances through Christ in us to be multiplied as our fruitful selves in spirit and in truth. The key of the Kingdom is our authority in Christ and our agency as co-creators of the Kingdom.
Jesus does not make you someone else, mold you to some stereo-type or make you a clones of some pastor or prophet. He grows you to who you are - into your real identity and purpose from the foundation of the world. To live from religion is to be a figment of religion. To live from Jesus is to be alive, yourself and doing what God made you to do.
‘But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me’ 1 Cor 15.10 NIV.
Here Paul is fulfilling his purpose by living in the freedom of grace and the power of the Spirit of Christ within him.
In Christ we are engulfed and hidden in Him, yet we are revealed in the world according to our design and purpose for being. Christ manifests His life-changing power through the sons and daughters of God.
‘Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.’
The authority of the church Jesus builds is found in the fact that it is the multiplication of Himself in you. Christ is totally our life so let’s leave off looking for life in things that are not Him, things that are His stuff, things that are religion and things that are a reliance on the flesh and worldly thinking. Christ is our life full stop!
There is no special place you have to go. No pious position you need adopt and no exercise of the will or disciplining yourself to 'Keep close to Jesus' that is required. Jesus is in you and with you! Church is no more holy than your kitchen and Israel no more sanctified than India. The reason for this is that Christ is your life, the trinity inhabits you and Jesus manifests His spirit and life through you. The Holy Family has made their home in you and Christ has come in your flesh. The latter means that His Spirit imbues your body with His actual presence and life.
You are never alone, never an orphan and always included in God in the Spirit of One. Because Jesus has brought all together in Himself. Now, not only you and Father are one but you are included in the Holy Family.
‘But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him’ 1 Cor 6.17 NLT.
Francois Du Toit writes,
'God is not watching us from a distance, as the song suggests. Emmanuel means God with us. God can never again be God without us! God cannot get any closer to mankind than what he already did in the person of Jesus!
He is not nearer to some than what he is to others, nor nearer to Jerusalem than to Japan. As much as Jesus represents all of God, he represents the entire human race in one person (emphasis added).
Imagine God finding a word, worthy to hold his ultimate thought; his final, eternal most intimate word to mankind. He frames this word not in an ancient language of men or angels, but in an earthen jar, Jesus, the incarnate image and mirror radiance of all that God is, displayed in human from!
God has found a face in you that portrays him more beautifully than the best theology! Your features, your touch, the cadence of your voice, the compassion in your gaze, the lines in your smile, the warmth of your person and presence unveils him!'
Because Christ is your life you are a manifestation of His presence. This is the basis of His spirit-life in your being - the atmosphere of the Spirit around and in you, bringing you personal contentment and radiating His life to others. In Him you become resurrection and life! _______
