Inertia: People begin to die in their soul and their spirit before the onset of death in their body. Yet life in the body in the present can be spirited and alive when it is Jesus and not some generality such as christianity. OBSERVATIONS Ross Gittins wrote in The Age today, ‘Will your choice [in this election] be aimed at benefiting yourself and your family, or the wider community and “those less fortunate than ourselves”? It’s easy as Christians to obsess over sexual morality when the greater immorality is seen in how we treat the poor, refugees and the earth that is the physical ground of our being. It’s easy enough to judge sexual immorality and turn a blind eye to the wickedness of assessing a person’s worth by profession and income. In the old testament God warned that wickedness was defined in not seeking God’s face. In other words living in a ‘generality’ of God while neglecting a real relationship with God. It’s not hard to raise one’s arms in praise and worship on Sunday and live a week-day life based on institutionalised selfishness and un-love. It’s well name as Capitalism – the latter day version of Egypt and Babylon. WHAT IS GODLINESS? Jesus declared, ‘I am the way, the truth and the life.’ John wrote, ‘In Him is life and that life is the light of humanity.’ Jesus did not establish a religion named after Himself. People did that. Jesus envisaged the multiplication of Himself as the church and of society. His Kingdom is not moralism. Neither is it capitalism or socialism with a human face. His Kingdom is the multiplication of Himself as us. There’s a wonderful pleasure in ‘being.’ In being with a friends over coffee or with friends at a pub lunch organised for no other purpose than for the enjoyment of company and food. So what does it mean to be Godly? The creation and our consequent life had nothing to do with the law, religion or piety. But it had everything to do with the multiplication of limitless life, joy and belonging. I speak of the replication in us as human beings of the wonderful communion and joy in being that was the trinity. “Behind creation, figuring as the driving force of all divine activity, as the one thought at the forefront of the divine mind and the preoccupation of the heart of God, was the decision to give human beings a place in the circle of the Trinity. Before the blueprints for creation were drawn up, the Father, Son and Spirit set their heart and abounding philanthropy upon us. In sheer grace, the Triune God decided not to hoard the Trinitarian life and glory, but to share it with us, to lavish it upon us.” (1) NO POVERTY MENTALITY TO SEE HERE There is nothing remotely akin to austerity or the Christian version of a poverty mentality in our life in God. Only fullness of fellowship with God, infinite belonging and delight. We are not talking ‘prosperity doctrine’ here. We are talking fullness of spirit and life through Jesus Christ and the reason for Jesus’ resolve to draw us and the entire creation into union with Himself. But Jesus fed the 5000 for a reason: To show that He loves humanity and they He is their Bread of Life in every way. ‘The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you--they are full of the Spirit and life’ John 6.63 NIV. There is nothing faint or insubstantial in this life. Christ come in our flesh is the fullness of God dwelling in our person, marriage and families. In this new and living way called ‘life in the Spirit’ all who believe become the manifestation of the fullness of God – the trinity in you.
